Ferguson Steps Up Support for Performing Arts Center

(NEWPORT NEWS, Va.) — Ferguson Enterprises announces a commitment to sponsor two series of performances at Christopher Newport University’s Ferguson Center for the Arts.  The three-year gift helps underwrite the cost of presenting the Broadway and Family series.

“Ferguson believes strongly in giving back to the communities in which we do business,” said Ferguson President and CEO John Stegeman. “The arts are very important to the quality of life throughout Hampton Roads and we are very proud to sponsor both series.”

“We are thrilled that Ferguson Enterprises has continued to support the Center’s commitment to bringing the finest artists in the world to our community,” said CNU President Paul Trible. “We hope Ferguson’s sponsorship will inspire other business leaders to contribute to programming excellence in the performing arts.”
Like most not-for-profit performing arts centers, less than 60 percent of operating expenses at the Ferguson Center are covered by ticket sales.  The remainder is realized through corporate and private donations.
“Operating a performing arts center is an expensive endeavor, and the cost is not completely supported by ticket sales.” said Bruce Bronstein, director of communications for the Ferguson Center for the Arts. “This sponsorship of both our Broadway and Family Series helps make this programming possible.”

The 2006-07 Ferguson Broadway Series includes Jesus Christ Superstar, Elton John and Tim Rice’s Aida, 25th AnnualPutnamCounty Spelling Bee, Love Letters starring Larry Hagman and Barbara Eden and Riverdance.  The 2006-07 Ferguson Family Series includes Tom Chapin and Red Grammer, Discover Theater! Disney Kids, Golden Dragon Acrobats and Bits N’ Pieces Puppet Theatre’s Rip Van Winkle.

For more information on the 2006-07 season, call the Ferguson Center ticket office at 757-594-8752 or visit www.fergusoncenter.org.
